Fire Performance and Safety

Fire resistance is an inherent characteristic of cork, and Amorim Cork Protect leverages this natural advantage. The product achieves a Class A fire rating under ASTM E84 testing and burns without flame or the release of toxic gases. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Amorim Cork Protect is approved for both interior and exterior applications under applicable building codes and can be used as part of fire mitigation strategies, particularly in wildfire-prone regions.

Thermal Performance

Cork’s millions of sealed microcells create a natural thermal barrier that helps slow heat transfer through the building envelope. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Amorim Cork Protect transforms this inherent cork performance into a seamless protective layer that helps maintain more stable indoor temperatures, reduce thermal stress on the façade, and improve HVAC efficiency year-round.

FAQ

What is cork?

Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak tree. It is a natural, renewable, recyclable material harvested without cutting down the tree. After harvesting, the bark regenerates naturally and can be harvested again approximately every nine years.

What makes cork unique?

Cork combines several performance characteristics rarely found in a single material, including thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, elasticity, low weight, moisture resistance, and durability.

Where can Amorim Cork Protect be used?

It is suitable for residential, commercial, industrial, multifamily and renovation projects. It can be applied to a wide range of wall substrates and is approved for both interior and exterior applications.

What surfaces is Amorim Cork Protect compatible with?

The coating adheres to most common construction substrates, including stucco, concrete, concrete masonry units, brick, wood, metal siding and other properly prepared surfaces. Vinyl surfaces are not recommended.

Is Amorim Cork Protect fire rated?

Yes. The product has achieved an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating for interior finish applications.

What makes Amorim Cork Protect different from traditional stucco?

Unlike conventional cement-based stucco, Amorim Cork Protect provides a flexible, seamless coating that combines thermal insulation, acoustic performance, water resistance and crack-resistant properties in a single finish layer. It also brings distinctive fire-performance advantages, with an ASTM E84 Class A rating that supports added protection for exterior and interior wall applications.

How is the product applied?

Amorim Cork Protect is available in trowelable & sprayable formats.

Is Amorim Cork Protect suitable for wildfire-prone regions?

Yes. Amorim Cork Protect is well suited for wildfire-prone regions, combining an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating with compliance for use in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas.
