Cork-Based Acoustic Solutions Elevate Comfort at Capella Taipei Hotel, Taiwan

The newly completed Capella Taipei Hotel in Taiwan is a landmark project redefining luxury hospitality in the region. Designed by the prestigious André Fu Studio, the 86-room property blends Taipei’s cultural vibrancy with European sophistication, offering panoramic views of Taipei 101 and the surrounding mountains.

To meet the high acoustic performance requirements of a five-star urban hotel, AcoustiCork solutions from Amorim Cork Solutions were specified for two critical areas of the building: guest rooms and pool zones.

Targeted Acoustic Performance in Guest Rooms

The AcoustiCork U85 underscreed was applied across all guest rooms, following a tailored design strategy that targeted IIC > 55 / FIIC > 55. The system successfully met these standards, as confirmed by on-site acoustic testing, ensuring minimal transmission of impact noise between floors and a superior guest experience in terms of privacy and acoustic comfort.

Product Features and Sustainability

AcoustiCork U85 is a circular economy product made from agglomerated cork, recycled PU foam and a recycled rubber layer, providing effective impact noise insulation in floating screed applications. In this project, the 8/4mm thickness was used, featuring a wavy profile that further enhances its acoustic performance.

Thanks to cork’s unique cellular structure, the material offers excellent compression and recovery, allowing it to be stepped on during installation without affecting stability or long-term performance, unlike lower-density foam alternatives.

This product also includes a verified Environmental Product Declaration, reflecting Amorim Cork Solutions’ commitment to transparency and responsible market practices.

Vibration Control in High-Load Pool Area

For the swimming pool area, the VC 5015 solution was applied to create a floating floor system. The objective was to ensure effective acoustic decoupling in a space with high activity and demanding structural conditions.

The system was designed to account for: dynamic stiffness, deflection control and load-bearing capacity under a large volume of water.

This area also required special attention due to Taiwan’s seismic activity, where consistent performance under both normal conditions and seismic events is essential. The VC 5015 provided a resilient and stable barrier to structure-borne noise while supporting the structural requirements of the pool zone.
