Cork flooring used in Axiom’s new workspace in Sydney

Comfort, sound insulation, and a natural aesthetic supporting employee well-being and collaboration. Case Studies

Axiom’s Sydney studio required a transformation that would authentically reflect the company’s culture, creativity, and ongoing commitment to excellence. Designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being, the new workspace sought to balance functionality, comfort, and identity through the careful selection of materials capable of enhancing both the user experience and the project’s overall design language.

Within this vision, flooring played a fundamental role in shaping the atmosphere and performance of the space. Shell Jasmin, from the Wicanders portfolio and distributed in Australia by Market Timbers, was selected for its unique combination of aesthetics, comfort, and sustainability.

Its natural texture and sophisticated appearance integrate seamlessly with the project’s earthy colour palette and sustainable material choices, reinforcing a sense of warmth, authenticity, and connection to nature.

In addition to its visual appeal, cork has proven to be a particularly suitable choice for a contemporary work environment. Its natural properties provide exceptional comfort underfoot and sound insulation, contributing to a better experience for employees throughout the day. Wicanders cork flooring can reduce footfall noise within a room by up to 67%, as well as reduce perceived noise on the floor below by up to 13 dB/17 ΔIIC. These inherent properties help create a quieter and more comfortable environment that promotes concentration and collaboration.

The result is an environment that reflects Axiom’s values and provides a more balanced and welcoming experience for its employees. This project demonstrates how the careful selection of materials can play a decisive role in creating workspaces that combine aesthetics, functionality, and well-being, meeting the demands of the contemporary workplace.
